Paul Rhymer Among Featured Artists at 55th Annual Waterfowl Festival

I come from a family of artists and have drawn and painted my entire life. After receiving an associate of arts degree in 1984 in painting and drawing, I worked at the Smithsonian Institution doing taxidermy and model making for twenty-five years and retired in 2010. Having done so much three-dimensional work there, in the late 1990s, my work gradually began to move from painting and drawing into sculpture.

Being an avid fisher, hunter and birder, there are an unlimited sources of inspiration for sculptural ideas. Those observations are used to create sculptures that convey my feelings and experiences of animals—and use them to express feelings about the world around me.

My work has been exhibited in such prestigious art shows such as the National Sculpture Society, the Society of Animal Artists, and Birds in Art. You can find my wildlife sculpture at the National Zoo, National Museum of Natural History, the Denver Zoo, Woodson Art Museum, Hiraim Blauvelt Museum and well known public buildings, parks and private collections thought the US. I am honored to be on the Board of Directors for the Society of Animal Artists and the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art.
