Lisa Scarbath is a Resident Artist at the Howard County Center for the Arts in Ellicott City, MD. She creates 2D and 3D fine art mosaics and public art.
Guided by intuition and the emotional essence of each piece, Lisa selects materials that best tell the story she wants to convey. She cuts pieces of unique stained glass for “painting” scenes and works with slate for more abstract, organic forms. Upcycled materials-broken crockery, found objects, and discarded fragments-frequently find their way into her mosaics, adding texture, depth, and technical challenge. Her work spans a range of imagery, from abstract to representational, and moods from playful to contemplative, always inviting viewers to look closer and discover layered meaning.
A former attorney and professor, Lisa became a full-time mosaic artist in 2019. She serves on the Board of Contemporary Mosaic Art 2, where she hosts a monthly public art speaker series and co-chairs the 2026 Conference in Albuquerque, NM. She is also a member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists and a featured speaker at their 2025 Conference in Orlando, FL. Lisa is an owner/member of the Artists’ Gallery in Ellicott City, MD, represented by Benfield Gallery in Severna Park, and exhibits her work across Maryland, from Frederick to Ocean City.
