Artist Bio:

C. Keith Whitelock grew up in Mt. Vernon, a small community in Somerset County, Maryland. His favorite subjects are the weathered working boats and decaying derelicts that so often accent the surrounding marshes. Working in watercolors, oils, and occasionally acrylics, he tries to present a realistic image of a rapidly disappearing lifestyle.

Keith received a degree in Art Education from the University of Maryland and became an art teacher in a Salisbury junior high school. He later joined the Burroughs Corp. as a graphic artist and was draftsman for the county public works department. For the past 40 years he has pursued a full time career of painting the Eastern Shore scenes he loves so much.

His works have been featured in many area and regional shows winning a number of awards. He has been artist of the year for many local chapters of Ducks Unlimited and a State Sponsor Artist as well. He has been featured in Pace Magazine (Piedmont Airlines), Delmarva Heartland, and many other area publications. His work was included in the book “A Gallery of Marine Art” (Rockport Publishers, 1998) and in numerous American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA) national and regional exhibits. The prestigious Waterfowl Festival in Easton MD has included Keith as a painting exhibitor for 37 consecutive years. Nearby, at the St. Michaels Maritime Museum, a watercolor depicting a working skipjack is part of the permanent collection. In 1986 Keith was honored to be selected as a member of a Rotary Int. sponsored Group Study Exchange team that represented MD and DE for a six week tour of Southern England. He is an active crew member on the retired skipjack Ida May of Chance, MD.
