Linda Besse

Linda Besse
What is it like to paddle 459 miles above the Arctic Circle just to see a musk ox in the wild, or
snorkel with wild beluga whales in Hudson Bay, or be dropped off by a float plane to watch
grizzly bears harvest from salmon-filled streams, or hear the roar of lions while inside a rather
thin canvas tent? Linda Besse knows because she has traveled the world to see animals in their
natural habitat. Forty plus countries and all seven continents under her belt, this artist knows
seeing animals in the wild translates directly to her oil paintings.
Linda strives to capture that unique moment of “being there” whether it is some far-flung spot in
Antarctica, among wild horses in Wyoming, or a glimpse of a turkey in full strut out her kitchen
Painting exclusively in oil because she likes its luminosity, depth, and intensity of color, Linda
uses a mostly wet-on-wet technique to capture the immediacy of the image. She lives in the
country surrounded by deer, wild turkey, grouse, quail, coyote, and the occasional moose, bear,
and mountain lion.
