Victor Paroyan
2007 Masterpiece Carver
As a full time wildfowl artist, Victor Paroyan has been creating his art since 1985. It all began on the Canadian shores of Lake Ontario. In those days Paroyan started carving decoys for hunting. After entering shows, he started to accept commissions, teach classes and seminars, then finally taking on sculpting wildfowl art full time. He became a three-time world champion by winning the "Best in World" honors in 1992 at Ocean City, Maryland with a pair of Blue-winged Teals. In 1997 the honor was bestowed upon him again with a pair of Pintails, and in 1998 once again with a pair of Hooded Mergansers. Eleven of his carvings are on permanent display at the Ward Wildfowl Carving Museum in Salisbury, MD.
Paroyan was a writer for Wildfowl Carving Magazine from the late 90's to early 2000's. His monthly columns were called, "Beginners Notebook". This was a informational how-to article on carving and painting techniques. His carvings are featured in the book "Decoys: A Celebration of Contemporary Wildfowl" by Camden House. Paroyan's work has also appeared in "Decoys" Equinox calendars from 1992-2000.
As an active member of Ducks Unlimited, Paroyan's artwork has raised over $30,000 for the conservation of wetlands in Canada. For his contributions he has been awarded the "Bronze Teal".
Today Paroyan devotes his time and energy to attending competitions and art exhibitions throughout North America.
Selected as the 2007 Waterfowl Festival Masterpiece Carver, Victor is busy working on his piece, Scarlet Macaw, to be on display at the November Festival. For more information on Vic's progress, please click on his website, www.decoyart.com.
